Pivilion/EXEno1: TOGETHERTOGETHER by Dina & Vedran Gligo is a connected sculptural installation that exists on the fringes of the dominant network that the Internet has become: one that is largely centralized, commercial, and privatized. The project consists of a series of five hypermedia works programmed on Raspberry Pi devices and hosted on local Wi-Fi servers. The Raspberry Pi microcontrollers are integrated into 3D-printed sculptures. When viewed on smartphones or tablets, the five GIF animations reveal dynamic collages combining text and images, featuring a series of references and echoes centred on the idea of community. More broadly, the project known as Pivilion—initially accessed via the Tor browser, which is often associated with the dark web—encompasses a variety of artistic expressions that highlight the concept of community, whether through curated initiatives or, more simply, through collaborative and co-creative efforts. Here, TOGETHERTOGETHER reminds us that it is by coming together—outside the structures of power, particularly those of “big tech”—that a space for sharing and solidarity-based exchange can emerge. The gap between the utopia embodied by the Internet in its early days, and the current dystopian trend is now nearly impossible to bridge. But it is perhaps within this breach that counter-powers can take root.
